Replacement Trophy

Replacement Trophy

Painted and donated by Fredrick Charles John Chittock QSM (1903-1995)

Fred Chittock started his life in scouting as a scout in the 1st Chingford which was just down the road from Gilwell Park which still plays an important part in Scouting world-wide.

He did meet the founder of the Scouting Movement, Lord Robert Baden Powell.  He moved to New Zealand and become involved in Scouting here.  In 1995 he was present at the opening of the former headquarters of the Buckland Beach Scout Group.

In 1969 he was the accountant at Mason and Porter and when the group changed to Sea Scouts in February 1970 a move he supported up to his death in 1995.  When the headquarters had a boatshed constructed attached to the side of it Fred was seen walking from roof truss to roof truss – not bad for a 70 year old!! He attended many regattas and camped at them almost up to his demise at the age of 92.

He was a talented artist and painted many items including a range of Sea Scout Trophies which are still competed for today and this is one of them.  Fred was awarded the Queen Service Medal in 1978 and received many awards from the New Zealand Scout Association.
